HMD: I'll make an all-purpose one eventually
Notes:
Background: Chelsea is the first of two daughters from a pair of retired 'war heroes'. Though out of combat, her parents remained active in military affairs in various ways, a drill instructor and mechanical design. Despite a military family and upbringing, her household is far from strict... Actually, sometimes things were too loose given her parents' background. There were only ever two major rules in the house for Chelsea and her sister; Saturday morning television, and flight training; and as her father would insist, the latter was in case of the former's programming coming to pass once again.
At first, Chelsea was excited that watching TV was a rule, but before long it became a chore, and then mundane, as she grew out of sharing her father's passion for a particular television series. It was actually embarrassing by the time she'd entered higher school years where popularity and who your parents were mattered in social standing. Chelsea didn't mind bragging on her mom, but when it came to her father... she'd twist the truth, to make him seem more important, or generally less embarrassing. Fortunately, talks would focus on her mom, since Chelsea had taken after her in a more... magical manner.
Between inheriting magical ability from her mother's side, and particular flight training from a young age, on paper, Chelsea was a fairly adept pilot, though there was no action for a school girl to really see where she was brought up. All her training was 'in case of' and 'simulations from days past', even though times were relatively at peace.
More than once, thanks to her dad, Chelsea was able to meet several old war heroes, and at least familiarize herself with them. Even some she'd made friends with their children. Despite that she tried hard to be different from her dad, it was pretty clear she was her father's daughter. And eventually, it'd become more apparent as she found herself in a similar situation after several bizarre events; working with a group of 'Heroes of Justice' that had randomly banded together against a greater evil.
Without warning, while showing off her dad's latest mechanical project, Chelsea got caught up in a dog fight that worsened to her being thrown into a whole different world than her own.
Thinking herself all alone, Chelsea had been drawn into a petty civil war, where both sides were fairly oblivious to the greater threat that tormented them all too frequently. All that 'in case of' training would finally come in handy as the girl became, quickly, the bravest face in the Southern faction's armed forces despite her age. However, it was because of her age, and gender, that she was treated as a child, and babysat, until they needed someone with some cohones to pull a trigger or two.
Original canon background:
Cheslea, along with someone else she'd come to find she knew, were oddly pulled into a new world from her own after getting caught up in a dog fight with some bizarre monster. Shortly after being dumped into this new world she lost control and crash landed. After minutes of trying to call out for someone, with no response, she removes her helmet just as she's attacked from unknown troops. The impact made her break a tooth on her helmet, but she was also unable to retaliate with her machine in not the best of conditions after the crash.
While the troops surrounded her, they were incredibly cautious about the foreign machine. Unable to put up a fight or flee, Chelsea decided to surrender, and presented herself without arms. Her new captors were surprised that there was a young girl piloting the machine, though, since it crashed, it only made sense. Cuffing Chelsea and confiscating her machine, they took her back to their base, unable to understand her (not just through language barrier, but she now had a chipped tooth that would give her a lisp that even annoyed her for a while).
Though she couldn't explain too much to their commanding officer, given she didn't know what happened either, as well as a language barrier aided by her unfortunate lisp, the following interrogation had her explaining she was a pilot, and if she expected any sort of pity for both her age and gender, she'd be put to work, as well as babysat by a recently demoted officer, no little more than a paper pusher and inspector. She only spent a few days in the mess hall before the countrymen of "South Cho-son" would be attacked by those of the North. After a very brief one-sided argument with her babysitter, Cheslsea took one of the South's machines and launched.
South Cho-son's battle tactics were something to behold. Their fairly advanced machines (though not impressive to Chelsea by far) did little more than take pot shots from as far as they could manage. Combat didn't last more than a half hour before the South withdrew... when they were winning, merely because a third party entered the fray; metallic monsters emerging from the sea. Having inherited some of her parents' heroic nature, rather than flee on orders, Chelsea took the fight to the monsters, allowing time for the rest of the South's troops to withdraw before coming back. Though more damaged than the others, she'd outdone many of the soldiers in her one sortie than many had in months or years.
Chelsea had a field day bitching and whining not just about their weird way of fighting, but not even bothering to attack OBVIOUS monsters AND leaving behind their own in order to flee. However, being a 15 year old girl, despite her piloting skill and bravery by comparison, was simply told to go 'to her room' and escorted away by her 'babysitter'. Her protests fell on deaf ears, but she'd avoided punishment for; ignoring orders, not being authorized as a pilot, using South Cho-son technology without proper clearance, and several other violations that would have most either discharged or killed; all because she actually FOUGHT and protected other Southern soldiers. She'd be reassigned as a pilot and properly trained as if she were a day one recruit, which many were at her age, and not permitted to fly until years later.
Personality: Growing up the daughter of two young and hot blooded 'Heroes', much of that heroism bled into her upbringing. She was never the 'fan' of televised heroes her father was, but she certainly picked up on the difference of "right and wrong " quickly. Growing up, she never stood for people being bullied, even if she lacked the proper size or stature to properly fight back against those who picked on the smaller.
But as kids usually are, the good and the bad are often black and white concepts. Monsters, and bullies were bad, and those being picked on or fighting against the monsters were good, which was more impressed upon by TV than she'd like to admit. And if you're not fighting the monsters when you physically can, you're just a coward to her, and you'd better expect an impassioned speech on justice and being a man if you don't meet her television-established standard.
Like many 'normal' kids her age (you know, the ones that go to school and aren't plagued with mecha pilot training or magical development, or having parents that are still active military), the way people see her is stupidly important because, clearly, being 15 is the pinnacle of life - nothing else further down the line matters. As such she always puts herself forward as helpful and friendly, and goes out of the way to make sure that people like and accept her.
As well, she tends to show off, doing what she can to garner (positive) attention by trying to overachieve, even when physical standing and skill prowess limit her. She tries to take on more than she can truly handle, and neglects that she isn't as awesome as she really seems to be. As well, she tends to brag, despite how much he truly makes her groan and face palm, about her dad. He's clearly achieved more in his youth than you, and that means she, by proxy, is just as amazing. Because remember, if you're not cool when you're 15, you'll never be cool.
Because of her parentage, Chelsea's put through daily combat simulations with a few types of machines. She's never seen a real dogfight, but she can pilot well according to simulators and test flights. She tends to act a bit recklessly, trying to show off and impress when her only audience was her parents. She knows enough that real combat is pretty damn dangerous, but it still seems like it'd be something easy to breeze through like many of her tests.
Capabilties and Resources: Where Chelsea is from, there are those... many, who bear supernatural powers. From magic, speaking with machines, being psychic, passing through matter; there's a large number, some of them genetic, some environmental, and some unnatural. Chelsea, like her mother and younger sister, developed an ability to manipulate a magic-like energy.
It's this energy that is used as the primary power source for her machine. As well, thanks to nagging and influences from both parents, Chelsea's come to materialize her magic in the form of a prehensile scarf. So long as the girl focuses on it, she can change the size, direction and orientation of the scarf, using it both for grappling, offense, and defense. While the scarf appears to wrap around her neck, it really only radiates from the first upper thoracic vertebrae (basically just below the base of the neck) meaning anything that blocks that particular vertebrae can prevent her from using her ability. This ability was taken into account when making her personal machine, and left a gap in the plating for it to exit. The gap causes it's own technical problems, but fortunately her magic permits a bit of protection to normalize pressure between the inside and outside of her machine when it significantly differs, meaning there is very limited usage of her magic when under water and in space.
Magic surely isn't an everyday thing, particularly hers, so when asked, she varies her response between her mom or her dad being alien.

When border disputes aren't just...: As usual, North and South Choson are fighting amongst one another, poorly, for territory control. However they're busy poorly fighting off strange mechanical pistol shrimp and crabs as well as each other. It's the monster side that seems to be doing best, as North and South are either horrible pilots, or cowardly... with the exception of two pilots from opposite sides who, unlike others are more interested in fighting the monsters than each other.
While fighting the monsters, the two Choson aces appear to know one another, but continue to fight off the monsters until they're done. North and South mooks will... poorly attack each other and 'inferior non-Choson technology' (aka the other PCs).
Once all the monsters are scattered, most of the Choson troops have either been defeated or run off, leaving the PC's and the Aces, Chelsea and Xue Yi to explain things from two different sides. From there, it's left up to the players to decide to accompany one or the other to North Choson (where the people are ignorant and believe themselves the center of the world, when they're pretty much a trash country.) and the South (where the country itself is better off, but militaristicly they're just cowards, despite having a technological edge over the North.) Both sides fail to address the larger threat of the mechanical monsters.
Whichever side is favored, the other will return to their 'respective country', leaving the chosen to escort them and explain the situation.
North: The mysterious and quiet ace Xue Yi seems to be playing the part of prisoner and has been staying of her own accord when she could leave freely. Because the countrymen are vainglorious bastards, they fail to see the threat of the aquatic monsters that have been attacking from the shores of both countries, and are far too occupied in trying to bring great glory in battles that they keep losing against their inferior Southern neighbors.
South: The loud and young ace, Chelsea, isn't as much a prisoner, as she is being babysat. Though young, she's far braver than the rest of the Southern soldiers, yet has failed to shout sense into the Southern countrymen who have superior technology over the North, but simply don't act on the fact that their lands are being devastated by monsters as much as the North are. They don't see the monsters as an immediate threat that they can handle, were they to take some imitative and try to drive them off, rather than fleeing and leaving the North to deal with them.
Sandwich Trench: South 1
Between battles, Chelsea has quite failed to boost awareness of Southern troops that there is something more than just themselves and the North. There's metal monsters afoot, and if she learned anything, it's monsters come first. It might be easier to convince the Unity group than South Cho-son. But while she tries to figure that out, lo and behold the metallic creatures make a strike on the Southern's shores.
The attack itself isn't anything grand, but it's the nature of the attack. As larger machines make it up onto shores, it's clear they're eating through the sand of the beaches as they make their way inland. Leaving gaping paths in their wake it's a fight against time more so than numbers, lest these mechanical creatures begin consuming more than just the beach.
Java Trench: South 2
After the last battle, Chelsea and team go to survey the damages to the land from just monster consumption alone, and find that many of the beach areas have become significantly deeper than they're supposed to be. Unfortunately without proper oceanic surveying equipment, it's going to be impossible to really assess the level of topographical damage being done.
A huge hint comes forth when a new manner of mechanical monsters start to come up shore, in the shape of sea life that would normally be found where the sun, literally, doesn't shine. Larger, deeper-sea creatures are rising up and eating away further at the land. Most importantly is a good hunk of land sinks in upon itself, creating a new lake where one should NOT be, but as well managing to leave one of the larger machines stranded; coincidentally flopping about like a fish out of water.
Mariana Trench
No longer is the problem just North or South Cho-son being consumed as the monsters are working their way inland, some Pacific islands have now entirely vanished from the map, and where the monsters aren't being stopped, it's starting to show that what land is being eaten, is being taken back under the sea, so some ONE or THING is clearly relocating the land and everything being eaten along with it. The group learns, through study of the previous machine, that materials, both man-made and natural, are being relocated and repurposed for the sake of constructing something. Further analysis; constructing MORE of these machines, but the technology itself is mostly unidentifiable (This may vary depending on canons with nanotech or decidedly 'alien' technology present).
Assessing that there's probably a factory somewhere in the ocean processing and producing, it becomes a matter of finding it. No other country is showing signs of topographical decay, so it's at least off the shores of Cho-son. Increasing tremors may be a sign that there's tunneling going on under the landmass; who knows when the country could simply sink into the ocean itself!? Analysis eventually narrows down an area where it could be; direction of creatures moving in, consumption trails, and one strange crash landing of a shuttle off in the ocean that took out an oil rig some years ago, but the depth of it could be too much for many mecha to handle.
But for once, the fight is taken to the machines, attacking them over/in the ocean as the team heads out to survey and see what can be seen...
Afterwards, it's far easier to pinpoint where the factory is. From the frequency of machines, and being within scannable depths, something MASSIVE is moving inland, and it's about half the size of what remains of Cho-son's mathematical landmass.
Challenger Deep:
In the incoming hours before we HAVE to deal with the moving factory, everything starts to come together after better analyzing the technology having been used for the monsters. Some sort of nano-tech had crashed in the ocean. Crashing into an oil platform it managed to reboot itself. And as it rolled deeper into the ocean it began taking in fish as a means of simply 'manufacture and gather materials'. On that loop alone it adapted to seal life and continued to produce, however the sea only has so many useful resources, so as it crept it's way onto land, minerals and generally trash and wreckage made it easier, prompting it to head further inland.
Frighteningly, the factory's taken on the appearance of a Carpet Shark, with a maw large enough it could easily consume many a mecha whole. If it gets too far inland, easily it could become unstoppable.
